External gateway application gateway and express route

Question

I just want to know if the onprem expressroute internal statement can be referenced to configure the external pool of the application gateway.

The documentation is a bit vague on this.

Base server pool: list of IP addresses of internal servers. The listed IP addresses must either belong to the subnet of the virtual network or must be publicly available IP / VIP. FQDN can also be used.

Based on this , I believe that any IP address can be referenced.
