How to send new message-based invitations without GKMatchmakerViewController

For some reason, we do not want to use the GKMatchmakerViewController. Currently, we offer the user of our application the opportunity to invite their Game Center friends through the list of friends displayed in our interface.

While this is possible in iOS 10, the user will no longer be able to add GC friends. Therefore, we want to use the new message-based prompts introduced in iOS 10.

How can this be archived without using the GKMatchmakerViewController? I just want to display a button to invite friends who open a view to send message-based invitations to someone exactly like the button does in GKMatchmakerViewController.

Currently (iOS 10.2) it is not possible to display an iMessage view without GKMatchmakerViewController.

In my application, I intend to still provide fully custom views for matchmaking. Only if a player on an iOS 10 device wants to invite a friend will I show GKMatchmakerViewController. This is not a great solution, but currently it seems like the most possible solution.

I will also write about this for Apple's bug reporter.
