I am trying to develop an application in which the server should send notifications to all Android devices working with this application every 5 seconds. I decided to use (Google) Firebse Cloud Messaging to send notifications, so I first tried the draft project guide
https://firebase.google.com/docs/notifications/android/console-audience
but I can't get it to work. I followed all the instructions. I posted the code that I used. I also created a file structure of the project → → → notification in the "Google Cloud Messaging" . I tried the application on an Android 5 device.
When I open the Firebase console and send a notification, I see an updated token in the log (from MyFirebaseInstanceIDServiceclass, method onTokenRefresh()), but when I start it again and send a notification to one device, copying and pasting a token nothing happens. In addition, when I send a notification from the console to the user segment , nothing happens again.
I also tried the corresponding ios example project for Firebase, from the same website, and it worked fine for iphone (all notifications sent). Am I missing something here?
public class MyFirebaseInstanceIDService extends FirebaseInstanceIdService {
private static final String TAG = "MyFirebaseIIDService";
@Override
public void onTokenRefresh() {
String refreshedToken = FirebaseInstanceId.getInstance().getToken();
Log.d(TAG, "Refreshed token: " + refreshedToken);
sendRegistrationToServer(refreshedToken);
}
private void sendRegistrationToServer(String token) {
}
}
MyFirebaseMessagingService:
public class MyFirebaseMessagingService extends FirebaseMessagingService {
private static final String TAG = "MyFirebaseMsgService";
@Override
public void onMessageReceived(RemoteMessage remoteMessage) {
Log.d(TAG, "From: " + remoteMessage.getFrom());
if (remoteMessage.getData().size() > 0) {
Log.d(TAG, "Message data payload: " + remoteMessage.getData());
}
if (remoteMessage.getNotification() != null) {
Log.d(TAG, "Message Notification Body: " + remoteMessage.getNotification().getBody());
}
sendNotification(remoteMessage.getNotification().getBody());
}
private void sendNotification(String messageBody) {
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);
intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0 , intent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
Uri defaultSoundUri= RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_stat_ic_notification)
.setContentTitle("FCM Message")
.setContentText(messageBody)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSound(defaultSoundUri)
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
NotificationManager notificationManager =
(NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(0 , notificationBuilder.build());
}
}
Primary activity:
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
private static final String TAG = "MainActivity";
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
if (getIntent().getExtras() != null) {
for (String key : getIntent().getExtras().keySet()) {
String value = getIntent().getExtras().getString(key);
Log.d(TAG, "Key: " + key + " Value: " + value);
}
}
Button subscribeButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.subscribeButton);
subscribeButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
FirebaseMessaging.getInstance().subscribeToTopic("news");
String msg = getString(R.string.msg_subscribed);
Log.d(TAG, msg);
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, msg, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
Button logTokenButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.logTokenButton);
logTokenButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
String token = FirebaseInstanceId.getInstance().getToken();
String msg = getString(R.string.msg_token_fmt, token);
Log.d(TAG, msg);
Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, msg, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
}
}
and build.gradle (project messaging):
buildscript {
repositories {
jcenter()
mavenLocal()
}
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.1.3'
classpath 'com.google.gms:google-services:3.0.0'
