What is a Docker tag (looking for a definition)?

I am looking for a definition of a "docker tag".

I read the documents and related posts and could not find anything.

This is mainly metadata that you can use to distinguish between versions of your Docker images so that you can keep older copies or primary build options.

If you used Docker, you can view the list of images and their tags with the command docker images. If you do not specify a tag for the local image, the default will be latest.
