How do I send a notification using the Eddystone URL?

I am trying to send a notification to Android devices using the Eddystone URL.

What I have tried so far:

  • I tried passing the URL to Eddystone using the altbeacon library.

  • I passed the URL to Eddystone using the Locate app.

The above URLs are successfully detected in this scanner application .

Google Docs says to register a beacon in Beacon Tools Appto send a notification. So I tried to register the lighthouse at Beacon Tools App. But the lighthouse NOT getting detected. This is because I usephone as a beacon

If so, how can I show a notification through a beacon transmitter?

EDIT

My phone is running Android 5.1 with Chrome 51. I also enabled Physical web in the privacy settings. I tested it on two to three devices. But still no luck!

EDIT: This issue has been fixed in release 2.9 . Make sure you update this version of the library if you have this problem.

Eddystone-URL, Locate 2.7.1, BeaconTools iOS 1.4 - Chrome iOS Chrome 51.0.2704.104.

I don’t need to register beacons with Google so Chrome Today picks them up.

This suggests that this works in general, but there may be a problem with a specific device or other configuration.

EDIT: While this works in the iOS versions of these applications, this does not apply to Android versions. See my other answer.
