I am writing a simple web page located in the root directory of a server with a shortcut located in "/favicon.ico", but my browser never requests this favicon.ico. I have included the following in html:
<link href="favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" />
When I open the network tab of the developer tools, I see a request for 192.168.0.1 (the web page itself), but without a subsequent request for the icon. Clearing the cache and enabling "disable cache" does not change the behavior.
There are no errors in the developer console, and everything else works fine.

I updated the link to the following according to Jean-Francois post and still had the same problem:
