Nodes websocket detects a disconnected socket

I have a nodejs web socket server and I am having the following problem.

When my clients connect to the server and gracefully shut down, a method is called on these sockets onclose, and I perform cleanup operations on a private socket.

When a client disconnects due to a network, the method is onclosenot called. Is it possible to set a timeout to be onclosecalled automatically after a timeout?
