Jalo level and service level

What is the difference between the Jalo layer and the service level of the Hybris Solution Suite? I would really appreciate it if anyone could give an example with him. I know that the Jalo level is outdated, but still, if I need to specify which layer to use on my platform, then where will I say Hybris or how will I tell Hybris to use a certain level?

I think the best thing is if you read pretty good wiki hybrids regarding both:

In early versions, Hybris Logic was tied to classes of generated element types through a Jalo layer (Jakarta Logic) to be more flexible. Hybris is now moving everything to a more flexible service level approach (not yet completed, promotions are a good example of an outdated Jalo layer).
