The difference between a database and a storage engine

I have little doubt, can someone help me clear this. I doubt what the difference is between a normal database (which we see as a database user) and a storage engine. During the search, I saw a point

The core of the database (or storage engine) is the underlying software component used by the database management system (DBMS) to create, read, update and delete (CRUD) data from the database.
