Google Analytics: How to use a custom dimension on another website to identify intranet users

SITUATION

I have a primary public Liferay website, which is therefore available for both intranet and non-intranet (i.e. public).

I also have a Liferay Intranet website, accessible only to intranet users, as it is protected through the login page. The intranet website login page is public. Upon successful login, the intranet website loads.

EXPECTED:

In my Analytics account for the main website, I want to distinguish between intranet users and public users (for example, to understand how the 2 categories behave).

Questions

  • Can I use a custom dimension to solve this problem, or is there a better way?

  • Custom measurement data must be sent via hits (UPDATE: by "hits" I meant either a pageview or an event, I do not mean the measurement area, cfr. Https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/ collection / analyticsjs / custom-dims-mets ), so I have to:

    • upload the Google Analytics tracking code of the main website on the intranet website (the website displayed after successful login)
    • send a snapshot of the page from this Intranet website to the main website along with a custom dimension, for example

      ga ('send', 'pageview', {'dimension1': "I am an intranet user"});

    Is it correct?
