Status bar not showing in iOS app

I am having a problem displaying the status bar in my view on iOS. I tried changing the plist file "The status bar is hidden by default" to "NO", but it still does not appear. This black bar is all I get, and I'm not sure why.enter image description here

EDIT: I'm not sure why I voted, I studied it, and everything I tried didn't work, maybe I should be more specific. Ive tried both answers below, which led to an error. There is something that I don’t see in the matter of delegation or something like that. I am new to speed and the problem with delegations.

StatusBar LightContent.

1) "info.plist" View controller-based status bar appearance= NO

2) AppDelgate.swift :

application.setStatusBarStyle(UIStatusBarStyle.LightContent, animated: true)

, !

UPDATE: iOS 9, Swift 4:

UIApplication.shared.statusBarStyle = .lightContent
