Visual Studio 2015 - Save Window Layout - Doesn't Work

Question

I recently installed Visual Studio 2015 (Pro, Update 1) and wanted to start using the new Save Window Layout feature. However, it does not seem to work on my system.

No matter how many times I use the Save Window Layout function, when I return to the Apply Window Layout menu, I see only “No Saved Layouts”.

I do not get any errors during the save (although there is no confirmation). Starting VS with the "/ log" switch does not show anything interesting.

I don’t have another layout manager installed in VS2015, and I also several times “Reset window layout” hoped to run this thing, but it also didn’t help.

I would appreciate thoughts on what might be wrong or how I can debug this.

I just tried to export the current VS2015 settings through the Import and Export Wizard. At the end of the process, I get this information:

Your settings were exported, but there were some errors.

Error 1: Failed to export settings for '# 2015' [code 7369]

Error 2: Failed to export settings for "Window Layouts" [code 7658]

I assume this is caused by the same underlying problem. Does this have a new light on this?

I was able to solve this:

• Export all current settings (Tools | Import and Export Settings ...)

• Reset ( | ...)
• Reimport (Tools | Import and Export Settings...)
