Removing or disabling a static IP address in Google Compute Engine

I am trying to remove / delete a static IP address that I no longer use, and see no way to do this. The closest I could get from the documentation is the page that says:

When an instance is stopped, you can still perform actions that may affect the stopped instance, for example:

  • [...]
  • Removing or setting a new static IP

PS Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. If someone would like to take a brief look at how to do this, I will give a short video on how and why it is recommended to free IP if it is not used. Hope this helps.

In Google Cloud docs :

Release the static external IP address

gcloud compute addresses delete ADDRESS --project PROJECT --region REGION

You can also do this through the web interface. In the left menu, go to "Network", then "External IP Addresses".

Now you can manage your current IP projects.

For static internal IP addresses, you need to log into the virtual machine instance and release the static binding in order to make the IP ephemeral again. The IP address will still be used, but after a reboot, it will again be in the pool of ephemeral addresses. It may happen that the same IP is attached accidentally.

The KB record for this particular case is here .
