ListView takes up all the space in LinearLayout

I have LinearLayoutone containing ListViewand LinearLayout:

    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"

        android:id="@+id/list_view"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="fill_parent"/>

    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:padding="10dp">

        <EditText
            android:layout_width="fill_parent"
            android:layout_height="40dp"
            android:hint="Hej"/>
    </LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>

ListViewoccupies the entire layout, but LinearLayoutwith is EditTextadded below the bottom edge of the screen and is not displayed. How can i fix this? I tried with layout_weightbut did not work.

This is because you are using fill_parent, and it will do just that.

You can try something in this direction ... This will cause the ListView to expand to fill the gap.
