ConversationId vs ConversationIndex property in the Exchange Web Services managed API

The EWS Managed API has two properties: ConversaionId and ConversationIndex

What is the difference between the two? I think this ConversationIdis the ConversationIndexfirst mail in the conversation, which essentially consists of 22 bytes, while it ConversationIndexis the index of this particular response in the conversation stream, essentially 22 bytes + a multiple of 5 bytes for each response in the conversation. This is true?

Also ConversationIdavailable only with Exchange Server 2010 onwards. So, can we access ConversationIdin Exchange Server 2007?
