Feasibilty / 3D Model Efficiency for a 2D Game

I have been using Unity3D for a while, and I also have experience programming 2D games using LibGdx.

I used to use my sprites on the net or make my own, but it wasn’t the best way to do something, because I’m more a programmer and sometimes I need very specific things, and so I started to learn a blender, and I really enjoy it.

What do I want to know how much overhead if you use 3D models for a 2D game? Especially if you want to transfer it to your mobile?
