Turn off spellcheck but save sentences

On Android, you can disable spell checking on EditText by setting inputType to textNoSuggestions. I do this to get rid of the ugly red underscores below all the words in EditText that are not recognized. But it also disables offers. I really want to turn off spell checking, but still allow the user to show suggestions above the keyboard. Is it possible?

You might think that this should be possible, as most people tend to write material with a mixture of abbreviated / unknown words along with correctly spelled words. Being able to select the suggested words, rather than ruining the EditText with ugly red underscores, would be welcome. If I really need a spell check, I can always just add a button that allows the user’s spell to check their text.
