Google Compute Engine Adds Drive and SSL Support

I am new to GCE. I was able to create a new instance using the gcutil tool and the GCE console. I have a few questions left and I need help:

1) Does GCE provide a persistent disk when creating a new instance? I think its 10 GB by default, but not sure. What is the right way to stop an instance without losing the data stored on it and what will be the charge (in the US zone) if I say that I need 20 GB of disk space for this?

2) If I need SSL to enable HTTPS, is there any additional step I should take? I think I will need to add a firewall according to the gcutil addfirewall command and create a certificate (or install it from the third part)?

1) A permanent disk is definitely suitable if you need a root disk on which data storage is independent of the life cycle of any virtual machine. When you create an instance of the Compute Engine using the Google Cloud Console, the “Download Source” drop-down menu contains the following options for your boot device:

  • New Permanent Disk from Image
  • New persistent disk from snapshot
  • Existing Permanent Disk
  • Scratch the disk from the image (not recommended)

( " " ), 10- PD, "boot". , " " ( ) PD . PD .
