In Circle Hough Transform, what is the inverse ratio of battery resolution (dp) and how does it affect circle detection?

The OpenCV documentation states:

dp: Inverse ratio of battery resolution to image resolution. For example, if dp = 1, the battery has the same resolution as the input image. If dp = 2, the battery has half the width and height.

But this does not indicate how the size of this value affects circle detection. I thought the battery was just a set of highs, how does it have resolution?
