Slc.autocategorize does not work with Plone collections

Question

I use slc.autocategorize to automatically tag folder items to build a complex set of materials on my Plone 4.3 site (think about multidimensional arrays). A tool is a tag file (tags are visible in view mode), but tags are not recognized by my collections unless I manually touch each file, opening it and saving it or copying and pasting it into place.

I checked the client and z2 logs and see no errors. Does anyone know if this is a compatibility issue? Is there something I cannot do with the index? Are there any other tools that I should consider to automatically classify the contents of a folder?
