I want to create an agent to connect to our live Tomcat and Weblogic servers, which will intercept all method calls to all classes declared in the package of my companies and perform some logging of such indicators as runtime.
I came across a Byte Buddy library that seems to be suitable for this. However, I do not 100% understand the approach to creating an agent using Byte Buddy:
I went with the approach of creating my own agent and packing it with Maven to include Byte Buddy as a live flag (so Buddy's byte code is on the way to the class), which I refer to my own catalina.bat
.
Edit: I have since downloaded the source and realized that AgentBuilder relies on the byte-buddy-agent package, so the above question doesn't matter.
Tomcat starts normally, and I see that the agent is being called, as I see the "Entered Tradition" System.out
.
However, I never see "Captured" System.out
when I run the code in a separate war file deployed to Tomcat.
Edit: The code below has been updated based on Raphael's answer, and now it works.
Can someone tell me what I can do wrong here? I have included the agent code below.
Also, can someone tell me which one is ElementMatchers
best for matching packages? I tried nameStartsWith
, but it didn’t affect, and the API documentation does not indicate if this is a fully qualified class name.
* Edit: name StartWith verifies the package. *
Anyway, thanks for any help!
