Black lines / borders UISearchBar

Question

I get the odd black lines above and below the UISearchBar, and I'm not quite sure how to get rid of them. Setting the UISearchBar style minimally solves this problem, but then it does not have the background color that I would like.

Any ideas what causes this? I looked through several similar questions, but no one seems to be doing what I want. Thank you very much in advance!

Try the following:

searchBar.layer.borderWidth = 1;
searchBar.layer.borderColor = [[UIColor blueColor] CGColor];

For Swift 3:

searchBar.layer.borderWidth = 1
searchBar.layer.borderColor = searchBar.barTintColor?.cgColor

By setting a blank image on the background, you will solve the problem

self.searchBar.backgroundImage = UIImage()
