I want information on how I can start the broadcast receiver when any new contact is added to my phone book. Basically I want to send a new contact to a server that is being updated recently.

In your case, the broadcast receiver is not your solution. You must use ContentObserver to "catch" the contact event. Read more about ContentObserver here and here .
