Can I create software around Gearman in 2015?

Question

I'm looking for a queue / job tool, and Gearman is right for me.

However, development seems to be inhibited:

• The last release was 1.5 years ago: https://launchpad.net/gearmand/+download
• Last commit by escort: https://code.launchpad.net/gearmand

The mothers seem to have a desire to start again , but it looks like nothing has happened since April 23rd.

So, is it a good idea to start using gearman now (i.e., it is stable enough and inhibited development is not a problem) or what is the alternative?
