Perl GD module will not be installed -

Question

I am trying to understand why I cannot get the Perl GD module to install on my Debian 7 server. Here is how I installed the main material:

sudo apt-get install libgd-gd2-perl

Then, running -MCPAN to install, I get:

The error you get is

Unknown option: installdirs
Usage: perl Build.PL [options]

cpanexpects to Build.PLpass its arguments to Module :: Build, but GD has funky Build.PL. Let it “fix” it.

Run the following from the temporary directory:
