Is OpenID not a single sign-on mechanism?

Wikipedia article says

Other common authentication schemes that should not be confused with SSO include OAuth, OpenID, OpenID Connect, and Facebook Connect, which require the user to enter their login credentials each time they access another site or application.

but I saw the OpenID and SAML comparison , as if they were trying to achieve the same (this article says that SAML is a single sign-on mechanism).

Can someone explain why OpenId is not a single sign-on mechanism?
