Angular material design: mdThemingProvider and color palettes, how to use them

I am very new to Angular material design and it is hard for me to find a suitable primer. I want to know if a predefined color palette (css) can be used with $ mdThemingProvider? Is there some proper documentation that can explain to me that $ mdThemingProvider really makes the code reasonable. Any help is appreciated!

While you can style AngularJS Material Design objects with CSS (like any other HTML elements), this is not recommended. Instead, the AngularJS Material Design package provides us with themes that will allow us to make simple color changes in the future with full ui (and for our users).
