Have all problems been resolved in iOS 8? There were no problem reports in August 2014, but I wanted to make sure before I dedicated SKShapeNode.
Update:
According to LearnCocos2D, you probably shouldn't use SKShapeNode for serious games. However, based on what I read and from my (brief) experience, SKShapeNode will not cause headaches during everyday use. I am inclined to assume that this is true, unless someone has the information specified otherwise?
