I don't use it often, but now (after Yosemite came in) I opened the XQuartz terminal and tried to log in ssh -X user@machine. But he no longer accepted the alt key. None of the alt-chars characters appear. The original letter always appears. Currently, I have finished using the shell command with an internal sign and called it, but this may not be the final solution. Note. I already checked all combinations of input parameters in the keyboard settings. I also rebooted (while I feel like a Windoze user).
ssh -X user@machine
After a long review of this issue, I felt the need to check it. And voila
XQuartz 2.7.11 (xorg-server 1.18.4)
(and possibly an earlier version) examined the problem and the alt key works again.
