Mobile apps: restful api or sdk dynamodb

I am creating my first application that uses an external database to store data.

And I'm struggling with the following question: How to connect to my database: use Amazon DynamoDB sdk for Android or create a soothing NodeJS-based api on my own server that transfers DynamoDB data?

I am very new to this, and when I browse the Internet, I see an Amazon offering to use the SDK.

The only problem: if I want to change the data structure in this function, what problems will my users experience with current versions of the application? And is it safe to store my Amazon keys inside the application (because people can decompile the application)?

On the other hand, I need to pay for an additional server that handles the connections between my application and DynamoDB. So ... is it worth it?

So I'm really struggling with this .... What do you guys think?

I would like to get direct access from your mobile application to DynamoDB. This will allow you to greatly simplify your application: you do not need to maintain, manage, protect the middle layer, AWS does it for you. You will also save on the cost of running your pair of NodeJS servers, load balancer, etc ...
