I have a huge problem caused by default style in google chrome. By default, areathere is no value for the tag . But the area / map is still displayed.

Everything works fine when I use the inline or css display unit. I am interested to know why the default value is missing in chrome? Is there a reason? Can I use the built-in display without any consequences? How is an element rendered if it is not displayed?
I am using the latest Google Chrome on windows 7.
