Can we use Asp.Net Membership Provider and Roles in MVC 5

I am converting an MVC 3 application to MVC 5. I read on the Internet that MVC 5 comes with an Asp.Net identifier for security. My question is that it is possible, possible, and useful to use the old membership and the provider role in the MVC 5 application. Can anyone provide any useful link where I can learn how to convert from membership and provider roles to Identity.

You do not need to migrate your membership provider to Identity if you do not want to. MVC5 will happily work with a membership provider. I migrated MVC3 with the MVC5 membership provider and had no problems with users.

I recently moved out of membership in Identity, and also did not have a big migration of problems - I just followed the instructions in the link already provided.

https://aspnet.codeplex.com/SourceControl/latest#Samples/Identity/ contains samples for converting applications from earlier memberships to Identity. This may be helpful. Also see http://www.asp.net/identity/overview/migrations for more information on porting applications.
