Position: absolute, inside display: table-cell with dynamic height in IE

Question

I have a horizontal layout that I use display: table-cellto get a uniform height. This looks great in Chrome, but I can't get IE to display in the same way.

That's what I intend to look like .

But in IE9, IE10 and IE11, I get something similar to this:

• The height .cellmust be dynamic.
• You need to work at least in IE.
• The vertical dashed line .tophas a variable height.
• The horizontal dashed line .righthas a variable position.
