JQuery click event on select option not working with jQuery Mobile map

Question

I am trying to fire a click event for my selection options.

This works fine in FF / Safari if the selected list is a normal multi selector field as follows:

However, if I turn on the jQuery Mobile framework, the click event no longer fires:

The event clickis <option>not standard and therefore not supported in all browsers.
You should use an event onchangeinstead onclick.
