Android MediaPlayer getCurrentPosition returns 0

Question

I am using MediaPlayer to play multiple audio files. I have a custom MediaController based on the Android MediaController. The problem I am facing is that when I pause the player, the controller shows the current position as 0 until I press again. I traced it to a media player returning 0 as its position when it stopped. Is this the intended behavior?
