How to transfer data / files between Chrome Extension and Android App?

In this app ( Workplace Notifications ), they send notifications from the Android phone to the Chrome Extension .

I want to do the same. How can this be achieved? I am looking for a direction for what tools I need to start the study (since I do not have the opportunity to start)

I don't have a server, so do I need to use Google APp Engine? Should I store notifications in Google Cloud Storage?

Is GAE the right approach?

(Note: the Indie developer is here, so it's advisable to look for a free solution, at least until the application gets more users)

This is a partial answer, but it is longer than the comment.

Notifications for Chrome have two APIs:

1) An older chrome.pushMessagingAPI using the " Google Cloud Messaging for Chrome ".

  • Maximum payload length: 256 bytes
  • Maximum subchannels: 4
  • Maximum API Requests Per Day: 10,000

2) New chrome.gcmAPI using Google Cloud Messaging

GCM is completely free no matter how large your message needs are and there are no quotas.
