Read Replicas in RDS AWS

Question

I am new to Amazon RDS. I installed a db instance in RDS. I want to try the RDS replica read function.

I have few queries:

• Which applications are readable replicas suitable for?
• Is a read replica replicating synchronously or asynchronously data to other read replicas?
• Is this a replacement for Multi AZ deployments?
• How is it better than master subordinate or master master replication in MYSQL.
• If we have replicas on EC2, it will work just like working with RDS replicas.
