Rackspace / Vagrant: Works with box firewall

I read a Rackspace article about using Vagrant with the Rackspace open cloud , which shows how you can use vagrant vm hosted on a Rackspace Server.

I am wondering if it is possible in any way to work with vm, which is provided as a Rackspace server on my local computer through Vagrant. I cannot find the box specifically for emulating Rackspace servers, and I cannot find information about which base OS and base tools the rackspace cloud servers actually use, so I could provide my own environment.

Is there a place where I can find a specific stray box or at least find out os information?

Edit: Correction is possible, but it takes several steps:

  • To export (from Rackspace) the image that you want to run locally, see here for more information.

  • Download image from cloud files

  • Converting / importing a vhd file to VirtualBox see this for example

  • At this point, you can use this image with Vagrant to local Rackspace image.
