Request StreetView images from specific dates

Question

With the advent of a new “historical” street view, available in different places, is it possible to request an API to somehow choose which date I want? I guess I need to first get a list of "available images" - is this planned?

Or at an even more basic level - how can I find out what date the picture was taken, I return from the usual request for an image api to the street.
