Confusion over IRC number 005 and general RFC

After going through the latest IRC RFC, I got a little confused, the RFC states in section 5.1 that the response 005 is used to report failures, but whenever I connect to the IRC server, the numeric response 005 is used for ISUPPORT, as described here .

Am I mistaken to suggest that RFC2812 is our newest? Or is there some kind of add that I missed when changing 005 to RPL_ISUPPORT?

I also found this earlier SO question (it's from 2011, but which is even newer than any documentation I can find) in which the answer 005 is referred to as a β€œmap”, which is now the third.

To add to the confusion, I found another 2011 question here , in which someone points out that RFC2812 is not implemented and that RFC 1459 , but in Section 6: Answers there are no answers from 0 -199, and I can not find them where Something in the document.

I hope someone can help shed some light on the nightmare for IRC documentation for me.
