Do you need to install MS Excel or Office on the server to read the excel file in a web application?

I am working on creating and reading a file MS Excelin a web application asp.net. I am not sure if this requires installation Microsoft Excelon serveror not.

I do not want to install a licensed product on a server, for example MS office, etc.

Please let me know how can I implement this function without installing it MS Excelon the server or do I need to install MS excel on the server?
