OpenCV - set a curve to a set of points

This follows my post here: OpenCV - Remove "white" artifacts from the image and fit the curve

I deleted the white dots in the image, looking for points on the diagonal anywhere. My result now looks like this:

remove diag

Now I would like to place the curve in the remaining points in the image. I looked at previous posts in OpenCV where some suggested approxPolyDP. Is there an easier way to set a curve and display it in OpenCV?

The idea of using Hough curves was too complicated for me, since my image is essentially binary: http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/rbf/BOOKS/BANDB/LIB/bandb4_3.pdf

The final image is a (0-255) grayscale image w256 x h1024.

EDIT

I just connected the dots in the image using line segments. However, I would like to connect the dots by setting a smooth curve for all of them. I searched for SO for such a method and could not find a way.

connect

I think camouflage splines would be a good choice for your task.

You can find the implementation here: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/30838/Overhauser-Catmull-Rom-Splines-for-Camera-Animatio
