IReport incompatibility with Java 8

I installed Java 8 on my PC (in fact, its only JDK is installed) and I have iReport version 5.1.0.

After starting iReport, nothing happened. It did not start at all.

I think that there is incompatibility with these two technologies. I searched and found on a specific forum that even the latest version of iReport does not support Java 8.

How true is this? If so, how long will it take for the new version of iReport to support Java 8? Are there any alternative tools to use in reports?

I am using Netbeans 8.0.
