Does Square have an API for accepting payments?

Square Connect looks perfect, but just for reporting purposes. We want to build the Square Payment platform on top to accept payment within our application through Square.

Square now provides an API for accepting online and personal payments. See this article for more details .

Not at this time. From the Square Help Center :

We do not currently offer an API for e-commerce solutions, but if we do this in the future, be sure to let us know.

Yes, you can use the Square Register API (iOS apps only). The Square Register API allows your iOS app to integrate with Square Register to allow merchants to accept payments. And currently it is available only to approved developers. If you are interested in using the Register API to integrate your iOS application with Square Register, you must first contact it.
