__Imp link errors using g ++ running mingw

I have a simple socket program that I am trying to compile using g ++ running in mingw (both recent versions) on a Win8 system. I get general linker errors

undefined reference to `__imp_socket'
undefined reference to `__imp_gethostbyname'

I tried adding -lws2_32 with no luck; those. he still cannot find the links. Can anyone suggest something else that I might lose?

Try placing -lws2_32after the parameter test_client.C. The gcc (ld) linker is the touching order of the things to be ordered, which is probably why it does not find your imported functions during the link.
