Is sockjs relevant for Android / iOS apps?

I want to create a chat application and buy it for $ 19B. The sockjs webpage says:

"SockJS is designed to work in all modern browsers and in environments that do not support the WebSocket protocol, for example, behind restrictive corporate proxies."

If I started my chat server on port 80 in a dedicated subdomain, does that not mean that people can still use it even with “restrictive corporate proxies”? In what scenarios will sockjs be useful for a mobile application compared to using only its own network sockets?

The FYI application will be a telephone, and the chat server will be based on a tornado.
