Action instance state: something that is automatically saved and restored

Question

I read here that the state of a Bundle instance automatically saves information about all View objects in the activity layout.

What other elements are automatically saved and how is this related to the layout used? Can anyone explain this process?

Note. I saw that a manually added fragment to FrameLayout (the fragment is not a view) will be automatically restored (without adding it again!).
