I would like to add a custom tag or attribute to the google sitemap for internal use. I cannot find documentation on this, so I would like to ask if anyone has done something like this?
You cannot add your own tags to the XML sitemap because they are not valid as described in the diagram. If you do this, you risk rejecting the site map or causing errors.
I use custom attributes (seem to work fine) and elements (cause errors, but are ignored by Google webmaster tools).
