Report services report freezes only in Internet Explorer

I have a report SSRS2008R2 that works fine through Chrome and Firefox, but will not run at all in Internet Explorer. I tried IE9, IE10 and IE11, but I get the same results. I just get a green “Download” circle, but the report never opens. I can run the exact same report with the same parameters in Chrome and Firefox, and it returns in about 2 seconds. This is a multi-page report with many page breaks. Other than that, I can't think of anything unusual in the report.

Any ideas why this is happening?

I had the same problem with IE10 and IE11 (I don’t know about IE9), and if I put the browser in compatibility mode, the report would be great.

Here's how to enable IE10 in compatibility mode http://techathlon.com/internet-explorer-10-run-compatibility-mode/

Update

This issue can also be fixed by upgrading to Reporting Services that ships with SQL Server 2012.

You may need to make sure that your SQL server is upgraded to Service Pack 2. There are several compatibility issues with RTM version 1.0 and SQL Server 2008R2.
