Git: key does not contain a section

Question

I am using Git version 1.8.4.2.

When I click tabto automatically complete any command, it prints an error below and it also completes the command.

error: the key does not contain a section: --get-regex

Can anyone help to avoid this error?

Check the .gitconfig in your home directory and see if there is a "--get-regex" in it where it should not be.

Also check .git / config in the repository you are working on on the same line.
